Ordinance
The San Carlos City Council has adopted a Mandatory Commercial and Multi-Family Residential Recycling Ordinance.  Details of the Ordinance are found in Chapter 8.25 of the City of San Carlos Municipal Code. 

Program Requirements
  • Recyclable Materials - All Solid Waste Collectors and Commercial and Multi-Family Residential Solid Waste Customers that have two (2) cubic yards or more of Garbage Collection Service per week must have Recycling Services.
  • Organic Materials - All Solid Waste Collectors and Commercial and Multi-Family Residential Solid Waste Customers that have two (2) cubic yards or more of Garbage Collection Service per week and that serve food service establishments and special events must have Organics Collection Services.
AB 341 - State Requirements for Commercial Recycling
In addition to the City's Mandatory Commercial and Multi-Family Residential Recycling Ordinance, the State of California has adopted similar requirements for mandatory recycling at Commercial and Multi-Family Residential sites.  These requirements are part of AB 341.  The compliance thresholds in AB 341 are similar to but somewhat higher than the ones in the City of San Carlos ordinance.
